POLITICAL
title>REHEARSING AN ABSENCE/ A PRESENCE
OF A CULTURAL BODY
author>Lina Issa
This project started and got transformed within specific political circumstances
that will remain an implicit and permeating fact in the whole project.
As a student from Lebanon, I have been denied my residence permit in The
Netherlands for strictly bureaucratic reasons. As I appealed against their
decision, I am not allowed to leave The Netherlands and be able to re-enter.
This decision created a ‘state of exception’ that consequently generated
new decisions within my projects and demanded a re-questioning of my position
as a ‘resident’- ‘artist’- ‘individual’ here in The Netherlands.
My project is framed within a translation of this state of exception into
a narrative of exchange between two women (me and my stand-in) producing
their differences. It is not only ‘subjective differences’ that we will
exchange, but also the fact of inhabiting two extremely different political
spaces.
Thus we will be in a border-space of exchange and continuously produced
difference that is underpinned by this ‘state of exception’.
