The Practice of Everyday Life
- City center ("Center") and shopping suburbs ("City") practise different forms of (in)accessibility. They are positioned 3km apart; both contain 8.4km of fences. The polarity and tension between the two ways of understanding urbanity is a tension between to representations of power: on one side the power of the state and its apparatus, on the other side the power of the capital. However there modes of operation are different, the result in both concepts of urbanity is shrinking of the public space.
Two posters 15x2m exhibited at the entrance point in shopping city show a continuous line of varieties of fences as a direct physical, symbolical and emotional barrier. Posters function as another fence, another barrier.
